Outdoor Community Theater Returns

Snow White is a hit

Last evening my husband and I went to the new Sehmel Homestead Park to see the outdoor performance of Snow White.  It was great!  Highlighted by the fact that you were watching community theater outdoors again, something I have been sad to see disappear in the harbor.

Multiple venues have served for outdoor theater performances in Gig Harbor over the years, but recently both community theater companies have been performing indoors only due to loss of outdoor space.

Sehmel Homestead Park has a facility that is perfect for theater - a small amphitheater with a permanent concrete 'stage".  Unfortunately this facility is also open for public rental (well not unfortunately, but unfortunately for the theater companies) so using it as a permanent summer venue is not possible.
Encore! Theater however has created a wonderful production of Snow White as the first test of using this space for outdoor performances.  The group is required to remove their set at the end of each weekend, but with a little creative thinking this venue could work out nicely if all parties could work together.  Having outdoor summer community theater once again in Gig Harbor would be so great.

I really recommend seeing this show.  But you have to hurry, it is only this weekend and next.  Tickets are available at the gate so just show up before 7pm.  Bring a blanket and a lawn chair.

I know this show had very little rehearsal time and yet it is very well done.  In particular Snow White, the Queen and the 7 Dwarfs are all well played.  The "Crone" is particularly good and the tiny little girl playing the "cat" charmed us all.  Children will love this show, which runs less than an hour and a half.

See Snow White through Sunday August 29th.  Learn more at www.encoretheater.org
