Bring Out The Artist In You At Chalk The Harbor!

Artists of all ages encouraged to chalk sidewalks with Maritime Themes

Gig Harbor, WA – June 29, 2017 – Families, organizations and artists of all ages are invited to participate in this year’s annual Chalk the Harbor event, hosted by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance and sponsored by Peninsula Light Company. Chalk the Harbor takes place on Saturday, July 15 from 10am – 3pm along downtown waterfront sidewalks. Artists are encouraged to create art with a Maritime Theme depicting images of the harbor, its fishing heritage, or any creative nautical or maritime illustration.

Free chalk is provided by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, who will also offer certificates of award for best chalk art in the following categories:

  • Under 3 years old
  • 4 – 6 years old
  • 7 – 10 years old
  • 11 - 13 years old
  • High School
  • College Students
  • Adult
  • Families
  • Groups/Organizations
  • Best Maritime Theme

Registration takes place on the day of the event from 10am – 2pm at two downtown locations, Devoted Kiss Cafe in the Finholm District and Skansie Brother’s Park. The event continues until 3pm.

Facepainting and Harbor WildWatch will be available at Skansie Park, and four professional artists will be chalking in designated areas along the waterfront. Be sure to look for their amazing artwork!

Artists and spectators are encouraged to ride Pierce Transit’s “Get Around Gig Harbor” Trolley to see all the creative artwork on the downtown waterfront.

Don’t forget to visit the Peninsula Art League’s annual Summer Arts Festival taking place on Judson Street both Saturday and Sunday!
