Celebrate Mother's Day with kid-friendly music in Olalla
(OLALLA, WA) Internationally known childrens entertainer Jim Valley will present a fun-for-the-whole-family Mother's Day concert at 2 pm on Sunday, May 11 at the Olalla Community Hall. The concert is the final event in this spring’s Second Sunday Music Series sponsored by the Olalla Community Club.
Valley, who lives in Gig Harbor, has just returned from a world tour that included concerts and workshops for school children in Kathmandu, Nepal – where he helped the Lincoln American School celebrate its 60th birthday – and at several schools in the United Arab Emirates.
Many parents recall the days when Valley was a member of Paul Revere and the Raiders in the sixties and seventies.Others have fond memories of Valley’s visits to their elementary schools and the songs and dances he taught them, and look forward to their own children having similar good times.
“We’re really very fortunate to have Jim take time from his busy schedule to play a concert for us,” said Olalla resident Hobie Denny, who chairs the OCC music and membership committees. “I think this will be a lovely way for families to celebrate Mother's Day together. The show is in the middle of the afternoon, so it won’t interfere with church or brunch or bedtime.”
According to Nolan Pepperdine, who books the performers for the music series, the concert will be specially priced for children and families. “Admission to all the concerts in our Sunday series is by free-will offering, and for the Jim Valley show the suggested donation is $15 for adults, $8 for kids 10 and under, $40 for families (two adults and two kiddos),” Pepperdine said.
Proceeds from the music series support the work of OCC and the Olalla Bluegrass Festival. OCC has been serving the community since 1937. OCC supports a variety of local good-works organizations including the PTA, Little League, food banks and music programs at several schools in the area.
