CenturyLink employees, communities to participate in national food drive

GIG HARBOR, WA CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) will hold its annual CenturyLink Backpack Buddies Feed the Children Food Drive June 2-13 in hundreds of company locations across the country. As part of this effort, CenturyLink is inviting local community members to join employees in supporting the Food Backpacks 4 Kids.

Community members who want to help support the drive can bring food donations or money to the CenturyLink office at, 8102 Skansie Avenue, Gig Harbor 98332.

The CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation has pledged to match donations made through this drive at $1 per pound of food up to 1 million pounds nationwide, providing the opportunity to increase individual donations with the support of this match. In 2013, the CenturyLink Food Drive resulted in the equivalent of 8.54 million pounds of food being donated to more than 200 food banks across the country.

“It’s vital that we improve the quality of life and end hunger in our communities. We recognize the increased demand for food during the summer when children are out of school, and we appreciate our friends and neighbors who join our employees in this worthwhile endeavor,” said Tom Novotney, CenturyLink’s vice president and general manager for Western Washington. “We can all work together to help fight hunger here in Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula.”

“We’re proud to partner with Food Backpacks 4 Kids to support their backpack program,” said Jan Kampbell, CenturyLink’s public relations manager for Western Washington, “No one should go hungry, especially our youth. Our hope is that our food drive effort can help fund this program and end childhood hunger in our local community. We invite the public to become a CenturyLink Backpack Buddy by joining us in supporting this effort.”
