GIG HARBOR HEALTH AND SAFETY EXPO

EVENT INFORMATION

Date: March 9, 2013, 9:00 – 2:30

Location: Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One Headquarters, 10222 Bujacich Rd NW

We are quickly approaching the 28th year of the Gig Harbor Health & Safety Expo. The purpose of this community event is to provide a wide variety of health screening and safety information to the citizens of the Gig Harbor Peninsula. Through the generous support of local businesses and healthcare providers, the following free screenings are available to Gig Harbor citizens:

Balance assessment

Basal metabolic rate

Blood pressure

BMI/body comp

Bone density

Cardiac step test

Carotid artery ultrasound

Chiropractic

Cholesterol/glucose

Foot exams for diabetics

Grip strength

Hearing

Height-weight

PSA (prostate cancer)

Pulse-oximetry

Skin cancer

Vision & glaucoma

Vitamin D

Women’s clinical breast exams

After completing the screening that interests them, there will be health care professionals available from MultiCare and Franciscan that can answer questions about results and highlight areas that need a follow-up with a primary care physician.

All this is available at no cost to Gig Harbor residents. The majority of the screening is provided in-kind; however, we do contract with ScreenPointe to handle all of the lab work. They are a local business that specializes in events like this and have been a part of the Health & Safety Expo since it first began in 1980. Our financial sponsors make this part of the screening possible:

Platinum Sponsors

Gig Harbor Firefighters’ Association

Gig Harbor Firefighters’ Local 3390

St. Anthony Hospital & Franciscan Health System

Gold Sponsors

MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park

Bronze Sponsors

Soundpath Health

UniFirst Uniforms & Services

In addition, Cascade Regional Blood Services will have their bloodmobile here, the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office is bringing their sprinkler system demonstration trailer, and Pierce County Animal Control will be here to provide information about their services.

Attendance averages 550.
