Harbor Hounds 12th Annual Charity Dog Walk – September 13, 2014
Gig Harbor, WA - August 29, 2014 – One of Gig Harbor, WA’s most beloved events is back again and going to the dogs. The Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday is proud to present the 12th Annual Charity Dog Walk, known as Harbor Hounds, on Saturday, September 13th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm along the historic waterfront of Gig Harbor, WA.
Harbor Hounds is a community event in which dog lovers walk their dogs between two beautiful Gig Harbor parks, housing a variety of sponsor companies and non-profit organizations sharing information and passing out samples to the many participating dog walkers. This year’s walk takes place between Skansie Brothers Park and Donkey Creek Park with a mid-point rest area at the Eddon Boat Park in downtown Gig Harbor.
“We are happy to have our full walk back this year, as Donkey Creek Park was unavailable last year due to construction in the area,” says Joe Flach, the Harbor Hounds Committee Chairperson for this year’s event. “And, because we had so much success with Eddon Boat Park as last year’s substitute end point, we are keeping it in the walk as a convenient mid-point resting area with vendor and sponsors booth to keep you entertained.”
Harbor Hounds is one of two fund raising events sponsored each year by the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday. All proceeds from Harbor Hounds are donated to Prison Pet Partnership and used to support a number of local and international charities and projects supported by the rotary club. These include: School Backpack Brigade; Gig Harbor Thanksgiving Basket Brigade; Gig Harbor High School incoming and outgoing exchange students; local scholarships; the Etta Projects; Courage Classic; a hydrotherapy pool for polio victims in Ethiopia; and other charities as selected by the rotary club members.
Funds are raised through contributions by presenting sponsors, dog sponsors, watering hole sponsors and registered dog walkers. Sponsors participating in Harbor Hounds 2014 include: Wilco (Harbor Hound’s t-shirt sponsor); Kitsap Bank (Harbor Hound’s doggie bandana sponsor); Julia Runyan/ReMax Realty (Harbor Hound’s wag-bag sponsor); Gig Harbor Kennel Groom and Board; Peninsula Pet Lodge; Kitsap Credit Union; Harbor Animal Hospital; NexGard; The Animal Emergency Clinic; Brookside Veterinary Hospital and many more.
There is still time and room for more sponsors. If you are interested, please visit our sponsorship web site at http://www.harborhounds.com/sponsors-2/
Harbor Hounds has more than 400 registered dog walkers participate in our event each year. Registered walkers receive: an event t-shirt; an event bandana for their dog(s); a wag-bag full of goodies from our sponsors; and entry in a grand-prize drawing. You can pre-register for Harbor Hounds, at a discounted rate, online at http://www.harborhounds.com/registration/, or at the day of the event at designated registration booths.
Flach states, “We are happy to announce that registration fees for this year’s walk have been dropped to only $15 for registration with a t-shirt and $10 for registration without a t-shirt. The value of coupons and gifts in the wag-bag itself is far greater than the registration fees – all of which goes to support our charities.”
And, Harbor Hounds concludes the day with a fun and enjoyable set of dog contests. Registered walkers can enter contests for best dressed dog, best tricks, best tail wagger, best kisser (the dog), best speak on command and, the always fun, musical stop and sit contest.
All in all, it is a fun day for dog lovers and people lovers alike, and, it’s for a good cause – paws for a cause. So please come out and join us, your neighbors, and your local hounds on this fun and worthwhile day.
