Live music in Olalla Grammy nominee Scott Mickelson performs Nov. 12
(OLALLA) San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Scott Mickelson is a two-time Grammy nominee. He’s in the midst of a house-concert tour of the Northwest and on Nov. 12, Mickelson will play a show at the Olalla Community Hall. The concert is part of the Mostly Monthly Music Series presented through the Olalla Community Club.
After recording five albums with his Bay Area band Fat Opie, Mickelson released his first solo album, “Flickering” in 2015. It was quickly nominated for two Grammy awards for Best Folk Album and Best Roots Music Performance. In addition one of his songs will be featured in the upcoming movie, “Along the Way.”
“Scott’s voice is a bit like Mark Knopfler’s” series producer Nolan Pepperdine said. “His songs are intelligent and his style is a bit hard to put in a box – somewhat Americana, maybe folk, although Scott prefers to call it ‘Punk/Americana.’ Whatever you call it, this show is going to be a little different.
As always, the Nov. 12 show starts with an all-invited potluck at 6pm. “The potlucks are always fun because we have a chance to get to know the performers and of course the food is always great,” Pepperdine said with a smile.
Music starts at 7 p.m. Suggested donation is $15-$20 but no one is ever turned away.
The music series continues in December with a holiday concert – artists to be announced. Other upcoming shows include FarmStrong – Jan 14; Hilary Scott – Feb. 11; Ira Wolf – March 11, Tim and Myles Thompson – April 8 and Kelly McRae on May 13.
