The New Waterfront Farmers Market Debuts June 4th

Farmer-Market-Logo-2015Gig Harbor, WA – May 18th, 2015 – Soon visitors and residents will have another option for fresh foods in downtown Gig Harbor. The new Waterfront Farmers Market will open for business on Thursday, June 4th at Skansie Brothers Park on Gig Harbor's beautiful downtown waterfront. The market will run weekly through September 24th. Hours of the new market will be 3pm – 7pm.

The Waterfront Farmers Market will be a community-based, open-air market with a mission to create a vibrant forum that connects citizens and food producers in a mutually beneficial economic and cultural exchange. The vision will be to return the farm to the farmers market in support of Gig Harbor’s rich fishing and agricultural history and provide fresh food access to everyone.

The WFM is a project of the nonprofit Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance. Many community partners and volunteers have come forward to support the market including the City of Gig Harbor. The new model will provide access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, fish and other local products, while creating a sense of community and helping to revitalize the waterfront district. According to newly appointed Market Manager, Kathleen Rose, the fundamental principles will be based on sustainability and environmentally safe practices. “I am honored to be a part of this new Waterfront Farmers Market. It will be a work in progress to bring something exceptional and unique to the waterfront.”
