U.s. Open-timed Events And Specials Welcome Visitors, Showcase Gig Harbor Attractions
Gig Harbor, WA – June 10, 2015 – Several events and specials will welcome visitors to experience Gig Harbor’s many attractions while the U.S. Open is being played at neighboring Chambers Bay later this month.
“Our goal is to make U.S. Open guests feel welcome, enjoy themselves and leave with great memories of our beautiful harbor,” said Karen Scott, Tourism and Communications Director, City of Gig Harbor.

Summer Sounds will make its seasonal debut on June 16 with the Northwest’s premiere a cappella band, The Coats. The nationally touring artists blend music and comedy in intensely arranged yet hilarious performances. Summer Sounds is free to the public and takes place on Tuesdays through August 18 at 6:30PM at Skansie Brother’s Park.
The Harbor History Museum will present Gig Harbor’s first annual SolFest, on Saturday, June 13, from 2 to 10PM. The musical festival will feature the following bands: Heads out the Window, Rokkerbox, Mystery Machines, Hollers, Fab3, Alejandro Fleites, Jessica Lynn, and The Blues Redemption. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per family (two adults and up to four children) and include admission to the museum. Heritage Distilling Company will be featuring the “Arnold Daly” – locally made HDC vodka, iced tea and lemonade over ice – on its Bevanda menu for June. “Arnold Daly” is one of several offerings on the Bevanda fresh sheet at the waterfront tasting room on Harborview Drive at Pioneer.
The landmark Tides Tavern has outdoor, waterfront seating and offers happy hour, Monday through Friday, from 3 to 6PM, plus half price bottles of wine after 5PM on Thursdays.
The Hub, on the tarmac at the closest municipal airport to Chambers Bay, has extended hours and will offer U.S. Open menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as “ready to fly” take out. Menu selections with Northwest flair include scrambles and other breakfast items, pastas, salads, sandwiches, chicken and salmon entrees, sliders and other small plates, and signature Hub Pie pizzas. Destiny Harbor Tours has added a special “Tour to see the Course” guided excursion each day of the U.S. Open from their dock located at head of Gig Harbor to see the Chambers Bay course from the water. The 3.5-hour boat ride takes in the spectacular natural and man-made sights of South Puget Sound including the Tacoma Narrows Bridges, Salmon Beach and Pt Defiance. Passengers are welcome to bring food and non-alcohol beverages aboard the vessel. A restroom is provided. Cost is $60 per person, Monday through Thursday, and $80 per person, Friday through Sunday. The Waterfront Farmers Market, which opened on June 4, takes place on Thursday, June 18, from 3 to 7PM, at harbor-front Skansie Brothers Park (3207 Harborview Drive). Beyond freshly harvested farm produce, visitors will find locally prepared foods, baked goods, flowers, food booths, and more.
