Welcome To The Holidays On The Downtown Waterfront!

Hayrides with Santa, Caroling, Shopping Local and Ugly Sweaters among the highlights

Gig Harbor, WA – November 30, 2016 - Holiday fun is everywhere on Gig Harbor’s beautiful downtown waterfront this festive holiday season.

Deck the Harbor, presented by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, is the 6th annual decorating contest in which merchants are encouraged to create imaginative holiday displays. The Alliance invites you to stroll the harbor, enjoy the displays and vote for your favorite window in the People’s Choice voting. Simply enter the business that has your favorite display and fill out a ballot! Businesses have been working hard to add that touch of holiday spirit to their windows and storefronts for your enjoyment. You can vote all month long through December 24th.

Children will love Holiday Hayrides with Santa, taking place on Friday and Saturday, December 9th and 10th. This magical experience meets at Timberland Bank on Judson and operates from 4:30pm -7:30pm. Refreshments will be available in the warm lobby (thank you, Timberland Bank!), and the hayrides, provided in partnership with Miracle Ranch, are free. The Hayride makes a short stop during its one block journey to experience live Christmas music and an opportunity for a brief sing-along with Santa.

The Alliance’s crowd-pleasing, community caroling event, Hark the Harbor, takes place Sunday, December 11th at 5:30 pm at the Maritime Pier (next to the Tides Tavern). Songbooks and candles will be provided. Sharon Stearnes, a family oriented entertainer and accomplished musician, will lead carolers with joyful holiday carols while awaiting the arrival of the Argosy Christmas Ship, all aglow in festive lights! The Olympia Youth Choir – Cantabile will be performing from the ship. This year the Alliance’s third annual Ugly Sweater Contest will be held during Hark the Harbor! Contestants should “Get their ugly on!” and join the fun at the Maritime Pier beginning at 5:30 for photos, prizes and fun! Judges will award prizes in multiple categories with a few tacky gifts that no ugly sweater owner can live without.

Throughout the month while shopping downtown, ladies are reminded to bring their Girls Night Out Event Programs filled with great holiday coupon offers.

The Gig Harbor Lions Club is sponsoring Giving Trees at businesses all over the Downtown Waterfront this holiday season. Help make the holidays special for children that are less fortunate this season in the Gig Harbor area. Simply take a tag from the tree, purchase the "special wish" item on the tag, and return it to the business with the Giving Tree by December 21.
