2011 Watermain Improvement and Replacement Project

2011 Water Main Improvement and Replacement Project:  The City opened bids on June 22 and City Council awarded a Public Works Contract to Wm. Dickson Co. on June 27 for this Project.  Due to delays in permits from Tacoma Public Utilities the project work along Cushman Trail between Soundview Drive and the City’s Shurgard Tank was not awarded on June 27.  All other project work will be located in the Harbor Heights area of town (along Lewis Street, Shyleen Street, Butler Drive, McDonald Avenue, and Pioneer Way) and will move forward with construction this summer.  The construction work may begin as early as the week of July 18.  Potential impacts to citizens are mostly limited to construction noise.  The work will abandon and dispose of approximately 3,700 linear feet of existing undersized asbestos cement water mains and will include sections of new asphalt roadway and roadside restoration.  Potential impacts to citizens include construction noise during standard city construction hours, limited vehicle access, rough roadways, and brief temporary water service interruptions.  The project should be completed in Fall 2011.

Well No. 11: The city’s contractor has completed the drilling of the test well to a depth of 1000 feet and installation of a well screen for test pumping.  Well development will begin next week and test pumping may begin as early as mid-July.  We anticipate having water quantity and quality data from the test pumping by mid-summer.
