72 Hour Film Competition Returns to the Gig Harbor Film Festival!
Gig Harbor, Wa – June 25, 2012 – The Gig Harbor Film Festival is proud to announce the return of the popular 72 Hour Film Competition this fall. Developed to challenge the creativity and technological skills of the filmmaker, the competition allows filmmakers 72 hours to create a movie of up to five minutes. All script writing, shooting, light design, sound recording and editing must take place during the allotted 72 hours. To add to the challenge, each film must include several Common Elements, such as a prop, a line of dialogue and an action, which must be used within the script. Filmmakers are notified of these common elements at the beginning of the 72 hour period.
2012 marks the third year for the 72 Hour Film Competition. The 72 hours of filmmaking take place over the weekend of September 14-16, with the films being shown as part of the Gig Harbor Film Festival October 19 – 21. Professional filmmakers judge the films based on Creative and Technical abilities as well as the use of the Common Elements. Awards will be given in two categories, Youth, up to age 18, and Adult, age 19 and over. The aim of the competition is to bring light to the lesser-known filmmakers in the area and give each a chance to prove their creative ability in a relatively short amount of time. Registration for the competition takes place August 17 – 31 at the Gig Harbor Film Festival office, located next to the Galaxy Theaters at Uptown Gig Harbor.
