AUSTIN STREET TO CLOSE FOR UTILITY RELOCATION WORK
Gig Harbor, Wash. July 31, 2012 –In preparation for the upcoming Donkey Creek Restoration and Transportation Improvements project, Utility companies that provide services in the City, including Puget Sound Energy Natural Gas, Peninsula Light Company, Comcast, and CenturyLink will relocate their utilities in advance of the construction of this project. The utility relocation work is scheduled to begin the week of August 6, 2012 and last approximately 6-8 weeks. It involves removing existing lines from North Harborview Drive, where the City will be installing a bridge over Donkey Creek, and repositioning them onto Austin Street and Harborview Drive. Austin Street will be closed through late September to early October while the utilities install their new service lines. There will be flaggers and short-term impacts along Harborview Drive and North Harborview Drive while the utilities complete the switch from the old alignment to the new.
The Donkey Creek Restoration and Transportation Improvements project will begin in late October after all utility relocation work is completed. This project will reconfigure the traffic flow on Austin Street and North Harborview Drive, daylight Donkey Creek, and add a bridge over the creek, where currently the creek is routed through a culvert under North Harborview Drive. This project is expected to last more than one year.
The City of Gig Harbor will host the next public open house regarding the Donkey Creek Restoration Project in late October. More information will be available soon.
