CenturyLink employees, communities to participate in national food drive
GIG HARBOR, WA – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) will hold its annual CenturyLink Backpack Buddies Feed the Children Food Drive June 2-13 in hundreds of company locations across the country. As part of this effort, CenturyLink is inviting local community members to join employees in supporting the Food Backpacks 4 Kids.
Community members who want to help support the drive can bring food donations or money to the CenturyLink office at, 8102 Skansie Avenue, Gig Harbor 98332.
The CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation has pledged to match donations made through this drive at $1 per pound of food up to 1 million pounds nationwide, providing the opportunity to increase individual donations with the support of this match. In 2013, the CenturyLink Food Drive resulted in the equivalent of 8.54 million pounds of food being donated to more than 200 food banks across the country.
“It’s vital that we improve the quality of life and end hunger in our communities. We recognize the increased demand for food during the summer when children are out of school, and we appreciate our friends and neighbors who join our employees in this worthwhile endeavor,” said Tom Novotney, CenturyLink’s vice president and general manager for Western Washington. “We can all work together to help fight hunger here in Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula.”

According to 2012 statistics provided by Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, Feeding America provides emergency food assistance to an estimated 37 million low-income people annually, a 46 percent increase from 25 million in 2006.
Forty-nine million Americans, including 15.9 million children, are receiving food assistance annually. That means one in six Americans now rely on Feeding America and its nationwide network of local food banks.
