Chalk the Harbor returns to downtown waterfront!

Gig Harbor, WA – July 7, 2014 – Families, organizations and artists of all ages are invited to participate in this year’s annual Chalk the Harbor event, hosted by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance and sponsored by Peninsula Light Company. Chalk the Harbor will take place on Saturday, July 19th from 10am – 3pm along the downtown waterfront sidewalks. Artists are encouraged to create art with a Maritime Theme depicting images of the harbor, its fishing heritage, or any creative nautical or maritime illustration.

Free chalk is provided by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, who will also offer certificates of awards for best chalk art in the following categories:

· 3 & under

· 4 – 6 year olds

· 7 – 10 year olds

· 11-13 year olds

· High School

· College Students

· Adult

· Families

· Groups

· Maritime/Nautical theme

Registration takes place on the day of the event from 10am – 2pm at two downtown locations: Anthony’s parking lot in the Finholm District and at Skansie Brothers Park. The event continues until 3pm.

Face Painting by Christina will be located at Skansie Brothers Park along with Harbor WildWatch’s interpretive touch tanks.

Four professional artists will be chalking in designated areas along the waterfront. New this year is a People’s Choice Award among the four professional artists. Ride the “Get Around Gig Harbor” PT Trolley between downtown and Finholm to view their amazing artwork.

Participants and spectators are encouraged to visit the Peninsula Art League’s annual Summer Arts Festival taking place on Judson Street on both Saturday and Sunday.
