Project Description

Starting in spring of 2012 the City of Gig Harbor will be undertaking a major construction project to widen and reconstruct a section of Point Fosdick Drive west of Olympic Drive to 56th Street, along with 56th Street from Point Fosdick Drive to Olympic Drive. The work to be completed consists of the construction of an entire new roadway including but not limited to the removal of old asphalt roadway, the installation of a new storm drain system, sanitary sewer force main, a center turn lane, curb/gutter and sidewalks, street lights, landscaping, and new asphalt roadway surface and traffic markings.

Funding for this project will be from grant that the City received from the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board, additional City funds and private developer dollars.

Anticipated Preliminary Project Schedule

Updates to the project plans are on schedule for the project to be advertised by March 19, 2012 as required by the grant agreement. Construction on this project will commence in May 2012. As soon as the City has opened bids and hires a contractor further scheduling information will come available. Some utility relocation work will begin prior to start of street construction.

Project Milestones

This past Monday (3/12/2012) the members of the City of Gig Harbor City Council approved an agreement that commits funding for this project. The City appreciates the partnering efforts of a local developer (Hogan Enterprises) and staff members of the State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) to make this possible.
