April 18, 2010, Gig Harbor Wash The City of Gig Harbor will host a public open house Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview Street for the public to review and comment on the upcoming Harborview Drive water main replacement project.

Beginning in August 2010, the City of Gig Harbor will replace approximately 5,000 lineal feet of existing asbestos cement water main along a portion of Harborview Drive and Stinson Avenue. Due to the age of the existing water main and the high pressure that occurs in this area, this water main has failed on numerous occasions over the past few years. This project will provide a new water main in the roadway and new services to existing water customers.

Scope of Project and Project Schedule

The City of Gig Harbor is currently in the design phase of the project. This project will place a new 12-inch ductile iron water main in Harborview Drive from the intersection of Rosedale Street to North Harborview Drive. In addition, a new 12-inch ductile iron water main will be placed in Stinson Avenue from Rosedale Street to Harborview Drive. At this time, the City has determined the water main location and awaiting 30% plan design for review. At this time, the City anticipates construction to begin in August and continue through October. During construction, you can expect roadway detours along Harborview Drive and Stinson Avenue, delays, and intermittent water disruptions. Many businesses and residential properties will be affected.

Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview Street, is an important opportunity for the public to learn and ask questions as well as comment on the project.
