Executive Chef & Top Chef Fan Favorite Kevin Gillespie
Gig Harbor, Washington (April 2011) – The Second Annual Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival (www.harborwineandfoodfest.com ) is proud to announce this year’s celebrity chef – Kevin Gillespie.
Chef Kevin Gillespie, Executive Chef/Partner at Atlanta’s Woodfire Grill and Top Chef contestant and Fan Favorite in the sixth season of Top Chef in Las Vegas 2009, will headline this year’s Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival on August 6th from Noon – 6PM.
Gillespie, an Atlanta native, began his culinary education at the Art Institute of Atlanta and worked his way through school and following school at several notable restaurants in the Atlanta area, landing at Woodfire Grill. In 2006, Gillespie headed to the West Coast to work as the executive sous chef at Fife Restaurant in Portland Oregon. He returned to Atlanta and the Woodfire Grill in mid 2008 and became Executive Chef/Partner in 2009.
In addition to achieving the restaurant partnership in 2009, Gillespie earned a spot on Bravo’s Emmy and James Beard Award-winning series “Top Chef” for the show’s sixth season in Las Vegas in 2009. Proving to be a top contender by winning the most “Quickfire Challenges” and Elimination Challenges” in the history of the show, he stood out as one of this season’s final three chef-testants who competed for the “Top Chef” title in Napa Valley. Gillespie was also voted “fan favorite” by the viewers of “Top Chef.”
Gillespie has been honored with a multitude of awards and recognition including; Mother Nature Network’s top “40 Chefs Under 40” in November 2009, Gayot.com’s “Top five Rising Chefs” in 2010, as well as being named as a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Rising Star Chef of the Year” award. Gillespie has been invited to prepare a meal at the James Beard House in New York City and has been featured on “Cooking with Emeril”. In 2010 Gillespie was selected as a Celebrity Chef Ambassador for the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program and received The Art Institute of Atlanta’s Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2011, Gillespie was again named a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Rising Star Chef of the year” award and nominated for Food & Wine’s “The People’s Best New Chef.” Gillespie will release two new cookbooks, the first in the fall of 2012 and the second in the fall of 2013.
