Gig Harbor, WA, January 24, 2011— On February 1, 2011, the Harbor History Museum will be holding “Family Fun Time” at 3:45pm. It is a time for families to come read a story, do a craft project, and examine an object from the collections that is not on display. For February, they’ll be celebrating the opening of their new Temporary exhibition, “An Excellent Little Bay,” by creating ship necklaces and examining navigational equipment.

“This is designed specifically for the school-aged child; it’s after school, it’s hands on, and it’s something they wouldn’t ordinarily get to do at the museum,” said Alyssa Taylor, Group Tour Coordinator.

Family Fun Time will take place on the first Tuesday of each month (February 1) from 3:45pm to 5:00 pm. The program is free for members, and admission plus $1.00 for non-members.

“We’re looking at this as a way to get children interested in history,” says Jennifer Kilmer, Executive Director, “We want to show them that history can be fun and engaging.”

The Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society dba Harbor History Museum was founded in 1963, and opened a museum in 1973. The mission of the Harbor History Museum is to create opportunities to experience the heritage of the greater Gig Harbor communities. We do this by collecting, preserving, and sharing this area’s history. The museum is open Tuesday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm, except major holidays.
