FIND HALLOWEEN ENTERTAINMENT FOR ALL AGES IN THE HISTORIC GIG HARBOR WATERFRONT DISTRICT

Gig Harbor WA, October 8, 2010 –

Calling all ghosts, pirates, princesses and candy lovers! “Trick-or-Treat in the Harbor,” now in its 14th year, continues to be the place to be on Halloween from 3-6:00 PM, Sunday, October 31st, in Gig Harbor’s Historic Waterfront District, where businesses will be open to greet you while they pass out sweets and treats!

GHHWA is sponsoring the second annual “Pumpkin Decorating Contest,” so start thinking about unique and creative ways to adorn your pumpkin. Pick up a coupon for a free pumpkin (donated by The Tides Tavern) at a participating waterfront business, identified by a sign in their window. Pumpkins can be picked up at the Harbor History Museum on Saturday, October 23 between 2:00 and 4:00 pm while supplies last. Return your carved, painted or embellished pumpkin to the Museum on Saturday, October 30 between 3:00 and 5:00 for judging. Prizes will be awarded Your pumpkin will then be delivered to a “host” business. Follow the map to participating merchants and search for your pumpkin in the Historic Waterfront District while trick-or-treating on Halloween between 3 and 6 pm.

The “Jack-O’s” will be back for your listening pleasure in the Pavilion and new this year, The Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North is sponsoring a photographer so you can capture your pumpkin memories. They will be accepting $5 cash donations to support the local food banks. Before having your trick-or-treaters photos taken with the “Jack-O’s”, visit the Face Painter in the Park for that extra added touch to your costume.

In order to provide a safe venue for all the many Trick-or-Treaters that come to Gig Harbor’s waterfront on Halloween, Harborview Drive will be closed from the intersection of Soundview and Judson, and around the waterfront to Stinson from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Officers will be on-site to assist local traffic. We appreciate the community helping us provide a safe place for our children and families to enjoy this festive day.

This annual event draws more than a thousand people to the historic downtown and Finholm District and is sponsored by the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association. It’s FREE and open to the public.
