Gig Harbor celebrates summer with Art Festival July 18 & 19

128 arts and crafts vendors will participate

(Gig Harbor) Gig Harbor’s annual Summer Art Festival will showcase the work of 128 arts and craftspeople on July 18 & 19 on Judson Street near the historic downtown waterfront. The festival is presented by Peninsula Art League. Admission is free.

Painters, potters, jewelry designers, fabric artists, woodworkers, photographers, sculptors and more will have artwork to admire and acquire.

“We’re really pleased with the quality and variety of work we have in this year’s festival,” said Festival Chair Hilaire Radowick. “Our screening committee did an excellent job in making their selections. We have artists coming from 13 states to participate.”

This is the 31st year of the festival, which is run entirely by PAL volunteers.

Food vendors and live music will add to the festivities. “We have a nice line up of musicians,” Radowick said, “and art demonstrations done by PAL members and even live fencing demonstrations.”

Gig Harbor library staffers will offer free art-making activities for children and will also do face painting.

And, in celebration of the written arts, a group of local writers and book illustrators will set up shop at Timberland Bank to sign copies of their work and talk about their creative process.

Concurrent with the festival, an exhibition of artwork by PAL members will be on display inside the Key Bank on Judson Street. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite painting for the People’s Choice award.

Free shuttle service will run every 15 minutes from the medical center parking lot on Kimball Drive (across from the Pierce Transit park-and-ride) to the festival site. And of course, festival-goers can also ride on the Pierce Transit trolley to the historic downtown area. There is a nominal cost to ride the trolley which runs from Uptown mall to the downtown the waterfront.

Proceeds from the Art Festival support scholarships for PAL members and high school seniors who want to pursue art studies. The festival is presented by Peninsula Art League with sponsorship support from Key Bank.
