May, 2013, Gig Harbor Wash; Tickets go on sale June 1st for Gig Harbor’s annual Garden Tour now in its 16th year. The two-day self-guided tour showcasing outstanding gardens in the Gig Harbor area takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 29 & 30th. Saturday hours are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday hours are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tickets are available in Gig Harbor at The Garden Room, Wilco, WildBirds Unlimited, Rosedale Nursery, Ace Hardware stores, Tacoma Community College, Sunnycrest Nursery.

Gig Harbor Garden Tour tickets will go on sale June first at the following Tacoma locations; Willow Tree Nursery, Gardensphere Nursery

Considered one of the premier Garden Tours in the region, the Gig Harbor Garden Tour was started by volunteers and the Milgard family, then operated by Tacoma Community College and today is its own 501(c) 3 organization supporting TCC’s Adult Basic Education Program in Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula, as well as “Reach Out and Read” National reading program and Communities in Schools.

The 2013 featured garden speakers are Ciscoe Morris: “Great Plants with “Oh la la” Appeal!” on Thursday June 27th, 7pm at Kensington Gardens; Riz Reyes: “Collector’s Plants for the Novice Gardener” on Saturday June 29th 2pm at Sehmel Homestead Park, Sue Goetz the “Creative Gardener” at Ace Hardware on June 30th at 2pm.

The Pierce County Master Gardeners’ Demo Garden and Nature Trail at Sehmel Homestead Park will be one of the featured spots on this year’s tour. The Master Gardener Clinic will be open both days to answer gardening questions.

In addition to the two day tour, the Gig Harbor Garden Tour Committee also organizes the annual “Dig the Gig” dinner and auction event, this year scheduled for June 14th at Canterwood Golf and Country Club. The evening includes the annual hand painted Adirondack chair raffle. Tickets are $50.
