Gig Harbor Names New City Administrator
July 3, 2018 - Gig Harbor, Wash.; Gig Harbor’s Mayor Kit Kuhn is pleased to announce Wade Farris has been selected as the new City Administrator for the city to begin August 9th. Mr. Farris was selected from a list of top candidates from around the country.
Farris will come to Gig Harbor from Othello, Wash., where he has been City Administrator for the past five years. Prior to leading Othello, Farris had a long career in the United States Air Force having held several management roles at Air Force bases across the country and internationally. He served as a leader at all levels in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve and retired as a Major General in 2013. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama and holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Management, with a focus on Public Administration, from Ashford University. Farris will bring an extensive level of leadership.
“We are fortunate to have a strong leader join our team in Gig Harbor,” Mayor Kuhn said. “Wade has a distinguished background managing and leading in the USAF at several bases in the United States. His experience in Othello adds another layer of expertise. I have been able to spend more than 3 hours with Wade sharing my goals and vision for our city and whole community. Wade agreed with the vision and is as excited as I am to help implement them.

In addition to Farris’s professional experience, he is recognized as an inspirational leader with ability to build relationships among various partners throughout his wide-ranging career.
The selection process for the new city administrator began shortly after Mayor Kuhn took office in January. Thirty-two candidates applied for the position that was advertised nationwide. In late June, the city hosted an open reception with the final three contenders. That same week, the three candidates participated in four interviews, two panel interviews and two one-on-one interviews with Interim City Administrator Tony Piasecki and Mayor Kuhn. The panel interviews were made up of city councilmembers, citizens and city staff.
“I'm honored that the Mayor, City Council, city staff and citizens selected me to be your next Administrator,” said Farris. “My wife, Kim and I are very excited to become part of the Gig Harbor community and to be involved in keeping it the wonderful place it's always been. I'm also ready and eager to help Mayor Kuhn and the Council achieve the goals and vision they have for the city's future. My goal is to make a significant, positive difference for Gig Harbor during my time as your Administrator. Finally, we are looking forward to meeting and working with the people of Gig Harbor and making this city our home!”
