Gig Harbor Police Officers Target Kids with "Safe Rider Citations"

Gig Harbor, Wash. June 4, 2012 – Beginning this month and going through the end of the year, Gig Harbor’s police officers will be on the look-out for “Safe Kids” in our community.

Uniformed police officers will be watching for younger children who are practicing safe bicycling habits. Kids may be stopped and given a coupon in an effort to encourage safe bicycling habits such as wearing helmets, riding safely and obeying safety rules.

Officers are armed with citations (coupons) for a free reduced fat vanilla ice cream cone that can be redeemed at either of the two the local Gig Harbor area McDonald’s.

The program is in partnership with Safe Kids Pierce County and Gig Harbor McDonalds Restaurants.

For more information contact Officer Joe Hicks, Gig Harbor Police Department at (253) 851-2236.
