Guided Walking Tours en route to the Downtown Waterfront
Waterfront Walking Tour is afoot Saturdays starting June 13
Gig Harbor, WA – Something new is strolling into the Harbor this summer. A Guided Walking Tour of the Gig Harbor downtown waterfront will be offered on Saturdays beginning June 13th. The tour is free to the public and presented by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance in partnership with Harbor WildWatch and the Harbor History Museum. This fun, informative tour will offer a general overview of Gig Harbor history and wildlife along the downtown waterfront. The one way, 1.3 mile route hugs the waterfront beginning at the Maritime Pier and ends at the Bogue Viewing Platform in the Finholm District. There are ten stops at intriguing points of interest along the way.
Josh Sherwin, Special Projects Coordinator for the Alliance said “we plan to make this tour fun, entertaining and informative for all ages, locals and visitors alike.” Each tour will have two guides, one of them a Wildlife expert from Harbor WildWatch. Lindsey Johnson, Executive Director of Harbor WildWatch said “we get questions all the time about the legend of the Giant Pacific Octopus that guards Galloping Gertie or the salmon seen leaping out of the water in Donkey Creek. We are excited to share our knowledge with residents and visitors who are as fascinated by Gig Harbor’s wildlife as we are.” Rahna Lovrovich, an Alliance Board member who is helping develop the tour, added “Gig Harbor is a beautiful waterfront town filled with culture and a heritage that is still intricately woven into our present. It has so much to offer and I am so excited for the opportunity to share all that Gig Harbor is with locals and tourists alike."
The tour will be offered rain or shine on most Saturdays at 10am during the summer beginning on June 13 through August 29. (Tour not available on July 4 or July 25). Since the tour is one way, participants are encouraged to ride the Trolley to get them back near the starting point, or to walk back and enjoy lunch or a visit to the museum. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Those who wish to take the tour should meet at the Maritime Pier 15 minutes prior to the 10am start time. Tour size is limited to the first 20 participants.
