Gig Harbor, WA, August 30, 2011—  Today, the Harbor History Museum’s board of trustees appointed Suzanne Loiland as the museum’s new Executive Director, effective September 26, 2011. Ms. Loiland will replace Jennifer Kilmer, who has accepted a position as Director of the Washington State Historical Society. Ms. Loiland is currently the museum’s Director of Development. She has been with the museum since September 2005, serving as its Capital Campaign Director.

Frank Ruffo, President of the museum’s Board, praised the decision. “Sue played a major role in our fundraising effort to build our museum. She is an excellent communicator and fundraiser and has demonstrated her ability to manage the museum through successful oversight of critical museum events and activities such as the Basket Social, Splash, grand opening and more. Sue’s appointment was a natural choice to provide continuity within our organization as we transition to an operational entity.”

Prior to joining the Museum, Ms. Loiland was a Development Associate with Washington Women’s Employment and Education. She also enjoyed a 16 year career in banking, holding various positions, including Internal Auditor and Operations Officer. Ms. Loiland holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington.

The Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society dba Harbor History Museum was founded in 1964, and opened a museum in 1973. The Society moved in to their new 14,500 square foot facility in September 2010. The mission of the Harbor History Museum is to create opportunities to experience the heritage of the greater Gig Harbor communities. We do this by collecting, preserving, and sharing this area’s history. The museum is open Tuesday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm, except major holidays.
