Invitation to Participate 2014 GHKP Make A Difference Day

Dear Greater Peninsula Community Leaders, Nonprofit Organizations and Agencies,

For more than twenty years, USA WEEKEND and HandsOn Network have partnered to sponsor Make A Difference Day—the nation’s single largest day of community service.

Held annually on the fourth Saturday of October, millions worldwide are rallied into a single day of action to give back to their communities, and help change the world.

On October 25th, our greater Gig Harbor & Key Peninsula community will unite with millions of volunteers worldwide in a common mission to improve the lives of others – and we’re hoping that you will join us.

The 2nd Annual GHKP Make A Difference Day event at Sehmel Homestead Park is hosted by the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation in collaboration with the City of Gig Harbor, PenMet Parks, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s volunteers.

During our first GHKP Make A Difference Day in 2013, 85 volunteers from 15 organizations came together to collect nearly 400 pounds of food and over $10,000 for area food banks, Food Backpacks 4Kids, the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade – in addition to coats and blankets for those in need of warmth during the cold winter months. At a minimum, we plan to double our impact this year!

This year we’re challenging all area schools, businesses and families alike to join in helping to set a Guinness World Record by building the world’s largest maze of donated canned food (EVER)!

The plan is simple, fun, and all ages can help in building the maze.

After the event, all food will go to area organizations that help feed area families in need. And, we’ll be in the running for one of 14 $10,000 grants from Newman’s Own to help us make an even bigger impact in our community.

Participating organizations have the opportunity to set up booths/stations for receiving donations, sharing information about services, community initiatives and volunteer opportunities, and will receive a live link on the Foundation’s GHKP Make A Difference Day web page. And to help make this day a huge success for our community and all those we serve, we’ll assure you receive event day information throughout October to share with your supporters and the greater community.

Space is limited. Booths are free to all area organizations, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please find the booth registration form and info packet attached to this email.

All registration forms must be received by October 15th to assure inclusion in the event guide and any Make A Difference Day related media.

If you have any questions, or know of area organizations that may be interested in participating, please call us at (253) 514-6338 or by email at

Let’s make this day count!
