Key Peninsula Civic Center readies to celebrate 11th annual “Livable Community Fair”

May 12th marks the date for the 11th Annual Key Peninsula Livable Community Fair, hosted by the Key Peninsula Civic Center Association, 17010 South Vaughn Rd., K.P.N., Vaughn, WA. 98394, from 10am to 3pm; admission is free.

More than 40 non-profits, and service organizations, serving the Key Peninsula - from the Fresh Food Revolution Co-op to TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) and Communities in Schools of Peninsula to the Key Peninsula Sportsmen’s Club - will share information and resources aimed at making our community more vibrant and well prepared. With a goal of becoming an Emergency Shelter, the Key Peninsula Civic Center Association is also bringing an emergency preparedness focus to the Livable Community Fair, and will be hosting a variety of vendors selling emergency supplies, as well as hosting talks about how to get prepared at home for the unexpected.

Outside, starting at 9am, before the Livable Fair opens its doors, the Lakebay Fuchsia Society kicks off its 17th annual plant sale with a variety of plant and tree varieties – not just fuchsias! Our treasured Key Peninsula Historical Society Museum will open at 10am; be sure to stop in and see their new displays about Penrose Point State Park, or, pick up a few used books.

At 10:15am, we will cut the ribbon for our brand new “Civic Center Playground”, a project funded by Key Peninsula Metropolitan Park District (Key Pen Parks). Demolition and removal of the old equipment, along with the construction of the new equipment was completed in April. The new equipment, which will feature a structure suitable for 2 to 5 year olds and two structures geared for 6 to 12 year olds, is a PlayCreation project using Landscape Structures playground equipment. See the conceptual drawing of the new playground on the Key Pen Parks’ website,

Key Pen Parks will also be hosting their popular Touch-a-Truck event with service vehicles from Peninsula Light, Key Pen Parks, Fire District 16 and more. This is a unique chance to get up close and explore the trucks and service vehicles that fascinate us all.

Throughout the day, in the gymnasium, attendees will be treated to short, on-stage performances from the students of several dance and sports classes taught at the Civic Center; this is a great opportunity to learn more about the classes available at the Civic Center. Concessions will be available during the event, with proceeds benefiting the Civic Center.

The Key Peninsula Livable Community Fair is a fun, family friendly collaborative event made possible thanks to amazing volunteers and terrific sponsors. This year, our Gold Sponsors are Peninsula Light
