Last Chance to Order a Gig Harbor Lighthouse 2014-2039 Time Capsule
Gig Harbor, Wash. – May 29, 2014 If you lived in or near Gig Harbor over the past 25 years, you would have seen or heard about the picturesque lighthouse that greets each and every boat that enters the mouth of the harbor. Little do people know that the lighthouse was built from donations and sales of the first capsules that were purchased back in the late 1980s. Over 100 capsules had been stored inside the lighthouse until the recent 25th Anniversary Celebration on April 26 when they were reunited with their owners.
During that blustery spring weekend, the lighthouse committee ran an online photo contest in which Jessica Robertson entered her winning photo “On the Dock” depicting her two children peering over the edge into the water. Not only is Jessica a talented photographer and geologist but she has a long history with the Gig Harbor maritime scene. Her father, Dave Robertson is the founder, president, and primary boat builder of the rowing and sailing business, Gig Harbor Boat Works www.ghboats.com. Her husband, Falk Bock, is the floor manager there and takes pleasure in rowing the family to the picturesque lighthouse whenever possible. (see photos)
This time around, people still have the opportunity to buy their very own time capsule and fill it with momentos and non-perishable items to be stored in the lighthouse again until 2039. Time capsules are available in 4”, 6”, 8” and 10” diameter and are 18” long (pvc pipe containers). Capsules can be purchased at the 2014 Maritime Gig Festival Chamber of Commerce booth June 7th and 8th and online now through June 8th at The Gig Harbor Lighthouse Association donation page https://www.gtcf/gigharborlighthouse25
All proceeds will benefit the Harbor History Museum and Gig Harbor Boatshop at Eddon Boatyard and are tax-deductible. The Gig Harbor Lighthouse 25 fund is a component fund of The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation. The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Tacoma, Washington.
Order forms (or see ad) are also available locally (in Gig Harbor) at the Harbor History Museum and Gig Harbor Boatshop at Eddon Boatyard. Last date to order a capsule is June 8, 2014 - they must be filled and returned on June 28, 2014, from Noon-3pm at the Harbor History Museum in order to be placed into the lighthouse this summer.
