Live music in Olalla

Singer-songwriter John Batdorf brings his music to the Olalla Community Hall

(OLALLA) Musical legend John Batdorf brings his unique brand of music to the Olalla Community Hall on Saturday, Jan. 9.

The show is the January edition of Olalla’s Mostly Monthly Music Series, according to series producer Nolan Pepperdine. “A concert with John is a great way to kick off the new year,” Pepperdine said. “He’s had an absolutely amazing musical career and we’re thrilled that he’s making a stop in Olalla.”

During the 70’s Batdorf toured and headlined as part of the duo Batdorf & Rodney. They opened for such big names as America, Seals and Crofts, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Bread, Pure Prairie League, John Prine and Kris Kristofferson to name just a few.

In the 80’s Batdorf focused on songwriting. His tunes were quickly picked up by America, England Dan, The Curry Sisters and Kim Carnes. He also sang background vocals on albums by Rod Stewart, Motley Crew, Dave Mason, Jefferson Starship, James Lee Stanley, David Lee Roth and other luminaries.

During that time he also composed the music for the CBS TV shows “Promised Land” and “Touched by an Angel.”

In 2011, Batdorf & Rodney were inducted into the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Since then, John has been bringing all this remarkable experience together, recording and touring as a solo artist.

The Jan. 9 show begins with an all-invited potluck at 6pm. Music starts at 7pm. “Just bring a dish to share and get to know other music lovers and hang out with John,” Pepperdine said.

Upcoming shows in Olalla’s Mostly Monthly Music Series include performances by Nancy Dillon on Feb. 13; Elaine Rominelli on Mar. 12; a very special evening with Nina Gerber and Chris Webster on April 10 and, on May 7, singer/storyteller Ronny Cox.

The concerts are presented by the Olalla Community Club, a non-profit that has been serving the local community since 1937. Suggested donation is $15, but nobody is ever turned away, Pepperdine said.
