November 9, 2010; GIG HARBOR, WA – This Thanksgiving, volunteers from Harbor Christian Center (HCC) will band together to help hundreds of people across Pierce and Kitsap counties. The event, called Road Trip 2010, focuses on helping the most vulnerable members of society, including the elderly, people with disabilities and children.

The Road Trip theme echoes the value HCC places on sending volunteers outside of their comfort zones to help the less fortunate. So far, the church has identified 50 projects or individuals that need assistance. Volunteers, friends and family members will hit the road during the weekend of November 27-28 to help. Examples of projects that will be completed include serving at the Tacoma Rescue Mission, building a wheelchair ramp for a Hospice patient in Key Peninsula, and a Diaper Drive for teen moms and families in need.

“We want to be available to help individuals and families in our area that need assistance on a given task, in addition to non-profit organizations,” said Gino Grunberg, HCC’s Lead Pastor. “The weekend presents the perfect opportunity to demonstrate thankfulness not just through words, but through action as well.”

HCC meets regularly at 9:00am and 10:30am on Sundays at the Jim and Carolyn Milgard Family Hope Center, Cheney Boys and Girls Club. The church works hard to create an environment that is safe and where no church experience is required.

HCC is looking to partner with the greater Gig Harbor community in collecting donations for a number of different projects.  Donations are being accepted for the following:

Coat & Blanket Drive for the Tacoma Rescue Mission

Diaper Drive

Dresses & Women’s Business Clothing for Love Inc.

FISH Toy Drive for Teens

FISH & Key Peninsula Food Banks

NW Furniture Bank

Toy Rescue Mission for Teens

Please drop off any donations at the Hope Center, Cheney Boys and Girls Club, 8502 Skansie Ave., on Saturday, November 27th or Sunday, November 28th, between 9:00am – 5:00pm.
