Monthly music series begins September 13 in Olalla with Dana Hubbard

OLALLA, WA – The tiny South Kitsap town of Olalla is becoming something of a Mecca for touring musicians. The annual Bluegrass and Beyond festival in August is a summertime tradition for many bands and local families and, starting Sept. 12, Olalla’s community hall will host a monthly music series featuring world-class musicians from throughout the U.S.

Most of the Clubhouse Concerts, as they’re being called, will take place on the second Saturday of the month, starting Sept. 13. Each evening will begin with a potluck at 6 p.m. for anyone who wants to bring a dish to share and meet the performers. Music starts at 7 p.m.

“We’re calling them Clubhouse Concerts because they’re like old-fashioned house concerts that happen to take place at the community hall. And the hall is the home of our Olalla Community Club that has been serving our area since 1937,” explained OCC Vice President Charlee Glock-Jackson. As with house concerts, admission is by donation and proceeds will be split between the performers and OCC to support the Club’s work in the community.

Singer-songwriter Dana Hubbard will kick off the Clubhouse Concerts on Sept. 13. Hubbard has won an arm-long list of awards including first place at the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, Indie International and the American Music Festival and an honorable mention at WoodyFest in Oklahoma in 2012, to name just a few.

The list of performers with whom Hubbard has shared the stage spans the spectrum from blues to bluegrass: Jesse Winchester, Sam Bush, Greg Allman, Etta James, Little Feat, Albert King, Joe Ely, John Hammond, Chris Isaak, Charlie Musslewhite and more.

“Dana has been called a cross between Bruce Cockburn and Jorma Kaukonen,” said Nolan Pepperdine, organizer of the concert series. “He’s also won Artist of The Year from Concerts in Your Home. He always puts on a great show and seats are going to fill up pretty quickly, so early reservations are recommended.”

Other Clubhouse Concerts include:

Oct. 11 – Reid Jameison – CD release show

Nov. 9 – Dan “Big Hands” Colvin (this is a Sunday show)

Dec. 13 – Holiday Variety Show

Jan. 10, 2015 – Simon Lynge

Feb 14 – Valentine’s Day show with the Ian McFeron Band

March 14 – Rokkerbox

April 11 – Carl Tosten

May 9 – Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellies

June 27 – Rupert Wales

The Clubhouse Concerts Series will resume in the fall of 2015. “We already have several great bands booked for the 2015-16 series,” Pepperdine said. “Word has already started to spread among performers that Olalla is a great place to play and bands are asking to be part of the line-up.”
