October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor, WA. October 7th, 2014 – In an effort to raise awareness of domestic violence issues, Mayor Jill Guernsey of the City of Gig Harbor will proclaim the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Gig Harbor at the City Council meeting on October 13, 2014. The City Council meeting will be held at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview Street, beginning at 5:30 pm.

The City of Gig Harbor recognizes that domestic violence prevention is everyone’s responsibility. The DV Kiosk located at City Hall has seen a steady rise in applications for protection orders, rising from eighty-two in 2010, eighty-three in 2011, ninety-six in 2012, and sixty-five so far this year. Gig Harbor citizens are invited to join in bringing light to this issue that affects our community, and participate in any of the events hosted throughout the Pierce County area. Event information is available and the Gig Harbor Civic Center, or on the YWCA Pierce County Facebook page
