Peninsula Art League presents 13th Annual Open Juried Art Show Sept. 12-Oct.18

GIG HARBOR – Gig Harbor’s History Museum is again the site of Peninsula Art League’s annual Open Juried Art Show.

The exhibit opens Sept. 12 with an awards reception at 6pm. Dawn Emerson, a pastel artist and author from Bend, Oregon will jury the paintings, jewelry, fiber arts and sculpture. Olympia photographer Larry Ikenberry will judge the photography entries.

"We had entries from more than 250 artists throughout the U.S. and Canada," said show organizer Sandy Newhouse. "Our jurors pared it down to 120 of the best works."

Five mediums are represented in the show: drawing, painting, mixed media, 3D artwork – including fiber art, jewelry and sculpture – as well as black and white, color and digital photography.

All work is for sale, with a percentage of each sale benefiting the museum, Newhouse said.

More than $3,000 in awards will be presented by show sponsors Jack Richardson & Company, Harbor Place at Cottesmore, Larson-Juhl, Mallard’s Landing, Water’s Edge Gallery, Ebb Tide Gallery and private donors. Refreshments for the reception will be provided by Peninsula Independent Retirement. The museum will provide wine for $5 a glass.

Admission to the opening reception is free. After Sept. 12, the show is included in regular museum admission. Museum hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm.
