Peninsula Art League’s Annual Juried Art Show Opens Oct. 6 at Gig Harbor Civic Center
(Gig Harbor) Peninsula Art League’s ninth annual Open Juried Show will be on display starting Oct. 6 at the Gig Harbor Civic Center.
Nationally known pastel artist Richard McKinley juried the show. He selected 85 paintings from among the 174 entries that were received from as far away as Kansas, North Carolina and Canada.
“Richard McKinley is perhaps the pre-eminent pastel artist of our time,” said PAL President Anne Knapp. “He is also an author and a highly respected teacher. We are very lucky to have him available to us to jury our show.”
“Acting as a juror is a difficult task and a very humbling experience. There were so many wonderful pieces submitted for this show that the final cuts were difficult to make,” McKinley said. “It’s never easy to sit in judgment of another artist’s work, and the diversity of entrants into this show is to be commended.”
McKinley will present awards to several major prize-winners at a reception on Oct 6, in the Council Chambers at the Civic Center. The reception is free and open to the public. According to Kathy Thurston co-chair of the show, this will be the first time the reception has been held in the Council Chambers. “We’re very pleased to be able to have our reception in such a prestigious location,” Thurston said.
The show will run through Dec. 2 and is available for viewing during regular business hours. PAL has arranged for the Civic Center to be open on Saturday, Nov. 5, and will offer free docent-lead tours that day.
