The 17th Annual Gig Harbor Garden Tour blooms June 28th & 29th

Gig Harbor, Wash. May 5th, 2014 - Tickets will go on sale June 1st for Gig Harbor’s annual Garden Tour now in its 17th year. The two-day, self-guided tour, showcasing outstanding gardens in the Gig Harbor area, takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 28 & 29th. Saturday hours are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday hours are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tickets will be available for purchase in person and online beginning June 1st at several locations in Pierce County. The Gig Harbor locations are ACE (both Gig Harbor locations), The Garden Room, Wilco, WildBirds Unlimited, Rosedale Gardens, and Sunnycrest Nursery in Lake Bay. Tacoma locations include Willow Tree Nursery and Garden Sphere Nursery. The cost is $25 ($20 for groups over 10). In addition to exploring beautiful and enchanting gardens up close and personal, tour goers are invited to number of FREE presentations which include:

  • Riz Reyes, Friday, June 27th 7pm at the Wesley Inn, located at 6575 Kimball Drive

  • Debra Prinzing, Saturday, June 28th at 2pm at The Barn (located across from Garden #1)

  • Laura Watson, Sunday, June 29th, Noon, at The Barn

  • Sue Goetz, Sunday, June 29th, 2pm at ACE, located at 4816 Point Fosdick Drive NW

For the first time, artwork done by the “artists in the garden” during past Gig Harbor Garden tours will be shown and featured at the Kimball Espresso Gallery located at 6950 Kimball Drive during the month of June. Kate Larsson’s original framed watercolor “Fuchsia and Hummingbird” chosen as this year’s Garden Tour poster, will also be on display. This original artwork will be raffled off during the Garden Tour weekend.

The mission of the Gig Harbor Garden Tour is to promote literacy by supporting educational programs for children and adults in the greater Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula area. The tour currently supported programs: Communities in Schools of Peninsula, Boys & Girls Club of Gig Harbor, Gig Harbor branch of the Pierce County Library, Reach Out and Read (Pediatrics Northwest), and Reading is Fundamental at Evergreen Elementary.
