The 19th Annual Gig Harbor Garden Tour June 25th & 26th

Benefits Literacy Programs in Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula areas

Gig Harbor, Wash. May 16th, 2016 - Tickets will go on sale for the tour on Wednesday, June 1st for Gig Harbor’s annual Garden Tour now in its 19th year. The two-day, self-guided tour, showcasing outstanding gardens in the Gig Harbor area, takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 25 and 26th. Saturday hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tickets will be available for purchase in person and online beginning June 1st at several locations in Pierce County. The Gig Harbor locations are:

ACE Hardware-Gig Harbor, The Garden Room, Wilco, Kaleidoscope, Rosedale Gardens, Tickled Pink and in Lakebay Sunnycrest Nursery. Tacoma locations include Willow Tree Nursery and Garden Sphere Nursery. The cost of a ticket is $25 ($20 for groups of 10 or more). In addition to exploring beautiful and enchanting gardens up close and personal, tour goers are invited to a FREE presentation on June 24, that is, with evidence of a 2016 tour program. This event will begin at 7pm in the Brookside Room of the Best Western Wesley Inn, Gig Harbor.

On June 24, Kelly Dodson and Sue Milliken, owners of Far Reaches Farm, Port Townsend, will give an interesting

on the following: “Passion and Plants – Too Much is Never Enough”

Kelly and Sue are obsessed plant collectors and their nursery, Far Reaches Farm, has gained an international reputation for their extensive collection of rare and uncommon plants. They will share their favorites of the moment which range from the high mountains of China to the high mountains of the Olympic Peninsula including must-haves for Northwest gardens and a few that only a botanist (or plant nut) could love. They shall bring a selection of their rare plants to sell to interested guests.

The official 2016 Garden Tour artist is Kathy Thurston of Ebb Tide Gallery. The poster, “Beneath the Lilies” will be

available for sale during the tour. Kathy will have a vendor space in one of the gardens on the tour.

The mission of the Gig Harbor Garden Tour is to promote literacy by supporting educational programs for children in the greater Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula areas. Last year’s proceeds were distributed to six deserving literacy programs: Discovery Elementary School, Communities in Schools of Peninsula, Tacoma Community College High School Completion Program, Reach Out and Read (Pediatrics Northwest), Evergreen Elementary School and Pierce County Library Foundation.
