The 2013 Gig Harbor Film Festival

Join us at the 6th Annual Gig Harbor Film Festival as we honor, pay tribute and say thank you to our U.S. Military Men and Women for their dedicated service and sacrifices as they protect our nation and freedom. The 2013 Gig Harbor Film Festival includes over 70 independent films and features more than 23 filmmakers participating in popular Q&A sessions and two panel discussions in the theatre after the screening of their films. Our Opening Film: GMO OMG

Who controls the future of your food? GMO OMG explores the systematic corporate takeover of our most precious and ancient inheritance: seeds. Director Jeremy Seifert investigates how loss of seed diversity and corresponding laboratory assisted genetic alteration of food affects our children, our planet and our freedom of choice. Is there still time to reclaim its purity, protect biodiversity and save ourselves?

Following the opening film, continue the fun as you, our stars, walk the red carpet at Canterwood to meet filmmakers and honored Medal of Honor recipient, SFC Petry and recipient of the Purple Heart, Sue Downes. Festivities will also include interviews and photo opportunities. Appetizers and a no host bar will be available. Cost is included in your VIP Pass or $45 without it.

REDWOOD HIGHWAY, with Shirley Knight Living in a comfortable retirement community in Southern Oregon, unsatisfied with her surroundings, Marie decides to journey 80 miles by foot to the coast of Oregon to see the ocean for the first time in 45 years. Along the way, she meets an extraordinary cast of characters and discovers that you’re never too old to learn something about life and about yourself.

SERVICE: When Women Come Marching Home….

The film portrays the courage of several women veterans as they transition from active duty back to civilian lives. Purple Heart recipient, Sue Downes, who is portrayed in the film is attending and will be part of the Q&A afterwards during a panel discussion.


Ms Solana, a well known storyteller will share some stories with the youngsters. Several short films will be shown for kids up to 10 years of age. There will be free treats including peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apple slices, juice boxes and string cheese. Please be aware if peanut allergies. $6.00 per child includes one parent free of charge.

IT’S A WRAP”, The Filmmaker’s Award Ceremony

Sunday, Oct. 20th, 3pm, Babich Net Shed

“It’s a Wrap” will commemorate the special efforts of participants who have devoted themselves to the art of film making. In addition to honoring those filmmakers, a special, “Pay it Forward” award will be presented to actress Lindsay Wagner who will attend the event. The award is a tribute to Ms. Wagner’s dedication to and promotion of the industry through classes, seminars and her lifetime involvement in film. Lindsay Wagner is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Jaime Sommers in the 1970s television series The Bionic Woman.

“It’s a Wrap” will take place at the historic Babich Net Shed. Built in 1941, the water front building was renovated in the 1980’s to become a community meeting space. Located between the Tides Tavern and The Green Turtle restaurant, the building includes an enclosed hall and a lounge. Appetizers and a no host beverage bar will be available. Dress is “Gig Harbor casual”; waterfront clothing and boat shoes. Attendees should be aware they will not be standing on an open dock; the dock is heated and has windows to block the wind.

72 HOUR FILM COMPETITION Screening and Awards

Support and attend the excitement as youth and adult filmmakers from Gig Harbor and surrounding communities learn which film will receive the trophy for best short competition in both age groups. Competitors had 72 hours on a recent weekend in July to create a movie of up to five minutes, including script writing, shooting, light design, sound recording and editing.


NFFTY, the National Film Festival For Talented Youth, is the largest youth film festival in the world. But it’s not just for youth. NFFTY occurs each spring in Seattle, Washington and is the premier showcase of the best young directors 22 and younger from around the world. The films of NFFTY represent the voice of this generation, covering all topics and genres, from compelling and provocative, to hilarious and uplifting. NFFTY has the perfect film for a film fan of any age.

Opening Night Gala $45

Join us at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 for this weekend kickoff event where you will meet filmmakers and notable guests, including inspirational recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, and the Purple Heart, presented to service members wounded in the line of duty. After attending the film screening of GMO OMG at the Galaxy Theatre, attendees are invited to an after-party at Canterwood Country Club with a no host bar and light appetizers. Kids welcome.

IT’S A WRAP” Filmmaker Award Ceremony $35

On Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3pm, Audience Choice and Director's Choice Awards will be presented to filmmakers in various categories, including: Features, Documentary, Narrative Short, and Animation. “Pay it Forward” award will be presented to actress Lindsay Wagner. Ceremony takes place at the historic Babich Net Shed. Appetizers and a no host beverage bar will be available. Kids welcome.

8 Movie Pass $45

This high-value option provides access to 8 films, chosen at time of entry.

Single Adult $8

Great if you just want to go to one or two films! This ticket will get you into a single block of films.

Single Concession $6

This ticket is for youth under 12, students, seniors and those with valid military ID, and admits you into a single block of films.

KidsFest $6

Just for kids event! Each ticket admits one child and one parent for films appropriate for kids ages 5-10. A local storyteller will also be on hand for kids’ enjoyment!
