The Greater Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour

Explore the scenic Gig Harbor area back country during the Greater Gig Harbor Area Open Studio Tour, September 15 and 16, 2012. Discover the talents of 25 local artists located in 20 studios nestled among towering trees, and catch glimpses of water views at nearly every turn of the road along this self guided tour. Visitors will enjoy the rare opportunity to meet artists on their own turf, discuss a specific technique, watch a variety of demonstrations and purchase fine art and craft directly from the artists.

The Gig Harbor Area Open Studio Tour has been attracting visitors since 1993 and has grown annually as an increasing number of talented artisans have joined its ranks. Each artist featured on the tour has been juried by a committee of experienced members on quality, design, studio set up and unique use of the artists medium. Visitors can expect to see high quality work, engage in interesting explanations of the artist’s medium, and enjoy beautiful settings at each stop along the way.

Dozens of artists make their home on the Gig Harbor Peninsula and surrounding area. This year’s tour will feature artists in Gig Harbor, Port Orchard, The Key Peninsula, and Fox Island. Several of the artists who will participate this year create work which is well known and recognizable locally, throughout Washington and in some cases, nationally.

There is no admission charge for The Gig Harbor Area Open Studio Tour which is designed as an educational opportunity for visitors to meet artists in their personal work space and to learn about the processes involved in producing their work. Artist’s mediums include oil, watercolor, and pastel paintings, several styles of works in clay, jewelry, metal sculpture, wood carving, and mixed media assemblage. Many of the artists will be demonstrating at various times throughout the two day tour, refreshments are frequently offered, and art is available for purchase directly from the artist in each studio.

Visit the Open Studio Tour website, for detailed information about each artist along with images of their work and a downloadable, printable map of the area and the location of each studio. Be sure to mark your calendar for September 15 & 16, 2012 and enjoy an “Art-full” driving tour of the beautiful area surrounding Gig Harbor, visiting artists where they live and work.
