Two Dozen Wineries to be Featured at the Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival

It’s time once again to celebrate the ingredients of the Good Life in Gig Harbor.  The second annual Gig Harbor Wine & Food Festival presented by the Harbor History Museum and the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association, will feature the culinary talents of Kevin Gillespie, Executive Chef and Partner at Woodfire Grill in Atlanta.  Gillespie was recently a contestant and Fan Favorite on Bravo’s “Top Chef”.

In addition to Gillespie’s food preparations, the festival will feature a grand tasting tent, gourmet foods from the region, cooking classes and demonstrations, wine tastings, craft brewers and classes, author signings, food samples, and an auction.  Gillespie will participate in a Celebrity Cook-off competition with another regional celebrity chef.

The festival will take place on the grounds of the new Harbor History Museum in historic downtown Gig Harbor.  The destination event showcasing the talents of the nation’s finest wine producers, chefs and culinary personalities follows an extremely successful first year event in 2010 which sold-out.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Harbor History Museum and the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association.  Both are committed to preserving Gig Harbor’s rich history and charming waterfront district.  For more information and tickets, .  For lodging information in Gig Harbor .

Chef Kevin Gillespie, an Atlanta native, began his culinary education at the Art Institute of Atlanta.  While in school full time he worked part time at various restaurants. After graduating with honors, Gillespie held positions at several well-known Atlanta restaurants including chef de partie at Atlanta Grill at the Ritz Carlton, sous chef at TWO Urban Licks and chef de cuisine at Woodfire Grill.  In 2006 he became executive sous chef at Fife Restaurant in Portland Oregon.  After a year and half he returned to his true love, Atlanta, and went back to work at Woodfire Grill, where in 2008 he became executive chef and in 2009 a partner.

The Harbor History Museum (formerly Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society) was founded in 1963, and opened a museum in 1973.  The current museum on the waterfront opened in September 2010 and has been wildly successful during its first year. The mission of the museum is to create opportunities to experience the heritage of the greater Gig Harbor communities.  We do this by collecting, preserving, and sharing this area’s history.  The museum provides a variety of public programs, exhibits, and educational outreach programs. We are a 501c(3) registered Washington charity.

The mission of the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association (GHHWA) is to bring together community and Waterfront District stakeholders in order to encourage economic vitality and to preserve the historic character and quality of the area. GHHWA is a 501c(3) registered Washington charity.
