Waterfront Alliance Announces New Board Members at Annual Meeting and Celebrates a Spectacular Year

Gig Harbor, WA, February 20, 2014 – At the Alliance Annual Meeting held in January, over 50 people filled the convening room at the Threshold Building to celebrate the organization's 2013 accomplishments and to hear our plans and goals for 2014. In addition, newly elected board members were introduced, along with re-elected board members, Randy Blue (Java & Clay) and Peter Stanley (Tides Tavern). Joining the board for their first terms are Rhana Lovrovich (Gig Harbor City Council) and Mike Henery (Owner, Tickled Pink). Board President, Gary Glein, commented, "We are fortunate and excited to have these two individuals join our board - they both love Gig Harbor and have a passion for the success of the waterfront district. They are a good match for the mission of the Alliance." Outgoing board members, Guy Hoppen (Gig Harbor BoatShop), Lloydette Roberts (McBeckland's), and Lita Dawn Stanton (City of Gig Harbor) were also honored.

Numerous awards were presented for outstanding projects and performance in 2013:

Best Launch Award - presented to Tickled Pink - new business in the downtown waterfront district in 2013;

Tied Together Award
- given to Pierce Transit, City of Gig Harbor, Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce and Uptown for organizations working together to bring the Summer Trolley project to Gig Harbor;

All Hands on Deck Award (Volunteer/s of the Year) went to Christina and Devon Dengler of Devoted Kiss for their unwavering support and participation in numerous Alliance events and projects;

Two Ship Shape Awards were presented - one to Peter Ivanovich for creating and maintaining a beautiful, downtown pocket park, and to El Pueblito for their beautiful interior makeover;

The Scuttlebutt Award was given to Charlee Glock-Jackson for her excellent coverage and ten-part series on the University of Washington Storefront Studio Project;

The Rising Tide Award was presented to a group of north Harborview merchants who came together to create an extra special Finholm experience for Girls Night Out (Devoted Kiss Cafe, Marketplace Grille, Anthony's Gig Harbor, Right at Home, Hawkins Poe, Sea Hags, Harbor History Museum, Beach Basket, Finholm's Market, Harbor Fit, Carlson & Associates, Salon Riviera, and JW).

2013 was a busy and successful year for the Alliance. Key projects included a Branding and Image Project, Retail Market Study, Storefront Studio Downtown Study with the University of Washington, a hugely successful Girls Night Out and other key promotions, the Summer Trolley Program, the realization of Connie's Clock, attaining the state cap in the B&O Tax Credit Program, the Dreamspeakers Boating Guide, and over 3,000 hours of volunteer time. The Alliance now moves into 2014, building on the spectacular momentum of 2013.
